Therapy

I draw on a range of therapeutic models within my work. My favoured approaches are Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR).

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a compassionate, evidence-based approach that can be used for a wide range of emotional difficulties. Rather than trying to get rid of difficult thoughts and feelings, ACT helps you change your relationship with them so they have less impact on your life. Together, we focus on building psychological flexibility: learning how to stay present, respond more gently to yourself, and take meaningful action guided by what truly matters to you. This approach can help you feel less stuck and more able to move forward, even in the presence of difficult experiences.

Eye Movement & Desensitisation Therapy (EMDR)

EMDR is an evidence-based therapy that can be used for a wide range of emotional difficulties, particularly those linked to past experiences that continue to feel distressing. It works by helping the brain process and make sense of difficult memories so they become less overwhelming. During EMDR, you are guided to briefly focus on aspects of a memory while engaging in bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements or tapping), which supports the brain’s natural healing processes. I also use a related approach known as the Flash Technique, especially if a memory feels too intense to focus on directly. This approach allows processing to happen without needing to fully engage with the distressing material. Instead, your attention stays mainly on something neutral or positive whilst engaging in bilateral stimulation.

Who can benefit from psychological therapy?

I work with people experiencing a wide range of mental health difficulties including anxiety, low mood, trauma, or long-standing emotional challenges. If you are feeling stuck in unhelpful patterns of thoughts and feelings and want to work towards change, then it is likely you would benefit.
