Starting therapy can feel like a big step, so it’s important to understand what to expect. Therapy is a collaborative process, where we work together to understand your experiences and find ways forward that feel right for you. It is a space to talk openly, feel heard, and begin to make sense of what may be difficult or overwhelming.

Free initial consultation
 
I offer free, 30-minute initial consultations. This gives you an opportunity to meet me, to hear about my way of working, and decide if you feel like I would be the right fit for what you are looking for.
 
Assessment
 
In the first few sessions, we focus on getting to know you and what has brought you to therapy. This includes understanding your current difficulties, your personal history, and what you would like to change or improve. You are always in control of what you choose to share, and we go at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

Formulation
 
As we build this understanding, we develop a shared “map” of what might be contributing to your difficulties. This is called a formulation. It links together your past experiences, current challenges, thoughts, feelings, and patterns, helping to make sense of why things feel the way they do.
 
Intervention (Therapy Work) - Online
 
From there, we begin the therapeutic work itself. This may involve approaches such as ACT or EMDR, depending on your needs and preferences. Sessions are offered online. Together, we focus on developing new ways of responding to difficult thoughts and feelings, processing past experiences, and making changes that support your wellbeing. Therapy is not about “fixing” you, but about supporting you to move towards a life that feels more manageable, meaningful, and aligned with what matters to you. The number of sessions varies from person to person and can be difficult to determine at the outset. If you have a particular limit in mind, we can discuss this together and I will work with you to help you gain as much benefit as possible within that time frame.
